Fishbowl answers:

Mark asks…

Do you think this Christian band have a chance of reaching number 1 in the UK charts?

Do you think this Christian band have a chance of reaching number 1 in the UK charts?
Just listened to radio one and it (History maker by Delirious) has already reached number 6 in the midweek charts.
And the facebook group has over 50,000 members!- (Christian music topping the UK Charts!)

What do you think? Do you think it has a chance?

thanks

Fishbowl answers:

Nah. Uk isn't overly religious. And even the religious people over here don't like preachy music. I know Christians who listen to 'Crunk'

It's not like in America where people think they'll burn in hell for listening to secular music, people in the UK have more sense and just listen to what they want

Daniel asks…

Christian Artists At Gay Pride Parades?

Brian Littrell is a Christian music artist. He's released a cd called "Welcome Home" that was #3 on the Christian music charts and had a #1 song "In Christ Alone". He's won several Christian music awards.

On June 27th, he was one of the grand marshals at the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. Since then, a movement has begun to boycott Brian and several Christian music stores have stopped selling his cd. He's being viciously attacked on twitter and other places like that. All for the sole reason that he attended this parade.

So my question is to everyone - Christians, Non-Christians, Gays, Straights..What do you think about a Christian artist participating in a gay pride parade?

And to Christians, if you believe it is wrong.. why? Jesus loved everyone, didn't he? God gives everyone multiple chances... and aren't we all sinners? And didn't He say not to judge and to leave that to him? The Bible says to love thy neighbor. It doesn't say to love thy neighbor.. but only if they are like you.

This is not a question intended to bait Christians or anything (as I so often see here). I'm seriously asking to try to understand why there is such an uproar over this. Brian has a secular music career also and he has been quoted as saying that the Christian music genre is much harder because they are much more judgmental. Don't you think all the judging and hypocrisy pushes people AWAY from Christ?

Fishbowl answers:

Yes. We should not expect the nonchristians to clean up their act BEFORE coming to Christ. I never heard of Brian Littrell, but if he feels led to do things like this, I think it's great. Christ came for sinners.

Maria asks…

Where can I tune to find Contemporary Christian Music from the 1970s?

I ask that the Yahoo Answers community respectfully restrict their answers to Knowledgeable replies. I will take steps to ensure that an answer like "Gee, I dunno" is not chosen as the Best Answer even if it is the only answer.

I became a Christian in mid 1976. I soon discovered the world of Contemporary Christian music: artists such as Evie Tornquist, the Second Chapter of Acts, John Fischer, Bob Ayala, and the Jeremiah People. Sadly, I fell away in the 1980s following a divorce, but have renewed my faith and am back in the fold.

My question is... Where - radio station, website, anywhere - can I find those late 60s to early 80s Christian songs?

It's sort of stramge. There are radio stations that specialize in rock oldies, even going back to the first days of rock 'n' roll. Old country/western songs are played as well. Butr there is an awful lot of excellent late 20th century Christian music that is nearly impossible to find in stores, that is getting no airplay anywhere that I can find, and that frankly does not deserve to be consigned to oblivion.

Okay, okay, I know: The "Contemporary" in Contemporary Christian does not mean 1970. But by the same token, when I say I liked the old Christian songs that doesn't mean I'm looking for "How Great Thou Art" or "The Old Rugged Cross" (excellent songs though they may be). Even a venue such as "Christian Music Rewind" (www.cmrewind.com) doesn't go back much further than the mid-1980s. It seems the only 1960s or 1970s Christian songs that get any airplay nowadays are the ones that were hits on the pop charts (and more than a few of them were questionably Christian indeed - *cough* *cough* Jesus Christ Superstar *cough* *cough*)

Songs such as Evie's "Give It All" and "Mirror", Christ Christian's "Mountain Top", and "Old Man's Rubble" (sung by this new girl on the Contemporary Christian scene named Amy Grant) deserve a better fate than to be forgotten forever. Can anyone tell me who's still playing them?

Fishbowl answers:

Hahaha, the "new girl" Amy Grant.

CCM is fairly young and has just gotten a foothold in the market, it isn't strange that there aren't a lot of Christian oldies stations.

I'm pretty young and i started listening to CCM as a kid shortly after the death of Keith Green (how did you not not mention him?) and all throughout the 80's.

You can try this if you have itunes.

or this if not (just find the station description you like best)

By the way, some artists you may have missed during the 80's.

Fishbowl answers:

Padding those numbers- reporting false results obtained through sales and surveys- in the recording (or book, or movie) industries, most products are ranked by items sold- and sometimes companies or individuals will provide false information that makes it look like they have higher sales than they really have.

Third Coast agent- from the south east US- centered around the Houston Texas area

Sells out arenas- enough people buy tickets to fill up large cencert halls

makes BIllboard top 20- sells enough of their music to make the list of top sellers in Billboard magazine- this rating also reflects the amount of play the music receives on the radio

Spot on Christian charts for 11 weeks running- this is the list of most popular Christian songs and his songs or album has been the most popular for a total of 11 weeks in a row

Gibson acoustic- a regular wooden guitar- not electric
