Could today's music icons like Katie Perry and lady Gaga really compete with people on american idol in singing ability

Lady gaga actually can sing, so she would go far in I think. Katy would get to the hollywood rounds, but I don't think she would make it to the live performances...
All in all, the only singers who could make it in American Idol are Christina aguleria, beyonce, and maybe Justin Timberlake.

How does Simon star in American Idol and Britain's Got Talent when they are running simultaneously?
Must he fly back and forth between England and the US multiple times a week?

No. The Britain's Got Talent auditions were filmed in Janurary and February. The judges already have determined which acts will be in the BGT semifinals. Meanwhile American Idol is live right now and will finish its run in late May. Once the Idol finale is over, Simon will have to fly back to London in time for the first of the BGT semifinal heats the very day. He truly is a very busy man also being a judge on The X Factor as well which runs from August to December.

If american idol stars fade, why audition?
I was in the car 20 minutes ago and i found myself answering this question. But i had a freaking hard time!
I mean Fantasia, Taylor, and even the other contestants faded and never did a thing again when they were crowned America's Idol! Why do people keep auditioning if they probably wont even become a huge star and use this life changing experience.
Kelly, Carrie, and Jordin have used the celeberty thing good.
Notice: Jordin is making an album and her songs are great!
And what does american idol even make you do to become a star. Get to the final 6 than leave i mean really. Chris Daughtry has made it bigger than Kelly. I mean really!
